Dai Thomas (Danny) has focused on art all her life. After briefly attending the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dai's painting skills landed her the position of head artist at the Marzi Sink Factory during the years it was located in Seaside, California (Marzi is now in Grants Pass, Oregon).
Dai's custom art and design studio, Twelve Miles West, is a Carmel Valley haven where, for the past fifteen years, she has created everything from large-scale mural installations for big facilities and galleries to decorated cakes down to the tiniest hand-painted beads. She boasts more than 200 garden signs on display at her studio, and can't paint them fast enough for her fans.
Ginna Gordon (Geebs) has written five books about cooking (see her author page on this website), and has been executive and/or personal chef for movie stars and gurus, retreats and restaurants. Ginna is now based in her Jacksonville, Oregon studio. She writes the poems for the Sunny Mae & Bird Read-Aloud Series, which was inspired by an acrylic painting of a hippo Dai Thomas created for her niece in Fairbanks, Alaska in 2014, for her new baby's room.
Dai and Ginna met in 2008 and clicked as friends and art colleagues. The Sunny Mae Series is their first book project. Danny & Geebs are the names their grandchildren bestowed upon them. It seemed appropriate for a children's book.
